PRENATAL CARE
AND OBSTRETRICS

Medical support throughout the pregnancy
by a team of experienced doctors

Welcome future parents! Our team of seven family doctors providing obstetrical care and deliveries at Cité de la Santé Hospital will be happy to assist you throughout your pregnancy and accompany you in this wonderful adventure that is the birth of your child.

Prenatal Care

Your medical prenatal care will take place at Medicentre Chomedey. Your first visit should be around 8 to 10 weeks (after your last menstrual period) with one of our nurses; you will then see a doctor around 10 to 12 weeks. As soon as your pregancy test is positive, send us your contact information and our secretaries will call you to book an appointment.

Medical visits are scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks initially, then every 2 to 3 weeks around 30 weeks, then every 1 to 2 weeks towards the end of your pregnancy.

Some physicians work with a specialized nurse practionner (aka IPS or “super-nurse”) who will be alternating visits with your doctor.

If you have a lot of nausea or morning-sickness, we can provide you with some medicine to soothe your symptoms.  You can either contact one of our nurses for a prescription or see your pharmacist who will be able to help you.

You should start taking folic acid supplements three months prior to your pregnancy.  If you have not already started and you are pregnant, you may do so as soon as you know you are pregnant.

Delivery

Your delivery will take place at Cité de la Santé Hospital in Laval, one of the busiest obstetrical care centers in Québec. Our staff of experienced nurses will take good care of you and you will be provided with a variety of options for pain management, including jacuzzi bath, obstetrical ball, Bonapace method, as well as epidural anesthesia.

Since we work as a team, you may or may not have your doctor there to assist your birth as most of us work on a daily on-call availability. But rest assured, we all offer the same quality care to all our patients. Please take note that Dr Stumpf is available for his pregnant patients monday to friday and some weekends.

You may take a virtual tour of the birthing facilities at Cité de la Santé.
